Описание к видео Why I changed out my BMW GS Lone Rider MotoCase mounting plate for a GSA version

I love the Lone Rider Moto Case. Unfortunately, it's mounting location when fitted to my 2018 BMW 1200 GS was too close to me as a rider and really didn't leave enough room for a pillion. Even throwing my Overlander bag onto the pillion seat left it pushing up against me. But that was more a legacy of the Lone Rider base plate position when used with the standard BMW GS grab handles and rack mount. You know the ones - plastic grab handles and a plastic support plate.

In addition, part of the standard plastic rack support moulding had fractured and so the top box was not as solidly mounted as it should have been. It must be noted however, that in my case, I think the standard mount had fractured when using my previous top box, so not directly a result of fitting the Moto Case.

My solution was to install a GSA style rear top box rack which was made of steel and also has a more rearward locating position than the OE GS (plastic) version. Whilst not a genuine part, the rack shape and positioning was as per the original 1200/1250 GSA. I could have modified my Lone Rider GS plate (I suppose) to fit, but as the mounting points for the LR plate to the rack are quite different, I decided to just acquire a dedicated GSA base plate from Lone Rider.

Problem solved!

I can now take a pillion in comfort, the top case is solidly mounted and I was even able to move the Moto Case locating pucks - the 4 red nylon lugs on the bottom of the box that marry the case to the base plate - to the middle position, rather than the suggested GS/GSA "front" position, which brings case weight and position slightly forward. Still with far more pillion room than if I had persisted with the GS handles/mount.

So - my tip, for what it's worth, and as a VERY amateur product reviewer, is that if you have a 1200 or 1250 GS and want to use the Lone Rider Moto Case, stump up for a GSA styled rack (mine was around $120 AUD) and use the Lone Rider GSA base plate. Works a treat.
