Leviton 3-way Decora switch not working

My Leviton “companion” switch stopped working after about 4 years.
The master switch and WiFi (Alexa) still worked fine.
I was convinced that I had a bad switch, so I actually bought a new companion switch.
I was wrong.
The “problem” turned out to be 5caused by a Leviton software update.

Why did my 3-way Remote Stop Working with my 1st Generation Switch? (1 year ago)

In the Version 1.6.0 firmware update to 1st Generation (DWxxx) Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices, a feature was added to disable or enable a wired remote (DD00R or DD0SR) from controlling the Decora Smart switch or dimmer to which it is connected.

To verify if the remote is enabled or disabled, tap the bottom of the rocker of the Decora Smart switch or dimmer 5 times. This toggles the remote functionality. After tapping the rocker, note the color of the Status LED. It will blink red to indicate the remote is disabled or green to indicate the remote is enabled.

If the LED blinks green, that means that the DD00R/DD0SR functionality was previously disabled, but is now enabled.
