Описание к видео SMEs in South Africa - is there valuable data in informal business?

In this video, @m1ster.p3me uses his adventure time in an informal business that makes South Africa’s favourite sandwich, ikota, which literally means quarter. The sandwich is made from a quarter loaf of bread and is a favourite on-the-to food item that is packed with numerous food items including atchar which is South Africa’s mango salad, potato chips, meat items, cheese, and other foodstuffs that make it colourful, yummy and filling.

In this video, he shares his experience working in one such food outlet and shares how because many of the businesses that make and sell these are informal and the owners are not tech savvy, there may be valuable economic data that South Africa’s economy misses out on.

It has been speculated before township economy circulates as much as R150billion annually, which is over USD7,0bn. Townships are characterised by spatial planning that comes from a separatist government structure from apartheid, and account for at least two thirds of the population in SA and are affected by urban migration trends due to their high poverty rates and lack of job opportunities. Resilience of many who occupy these places has prompted many South Africans to be self employed, which corresponds to what global organizations suggest that SMEs account for almost 90% of employment, which could well be the case in SA, if not similar.

In this case study, it is asked if the digital divide and a lack of technology literacy could be bridged so that this valuable economic data can be sourced as SMEs like this one are studied.

The kota in the picture is not an ideal one, because it is one @m1ster.p3me made without the food items his body seems to reject however, many who are familiar with what this kind of sandwich looks like will relate what it actually is like, and there are likely many others that can be referenced on the internet if not on social media. :)
