The two most common types of insulation for retrofitting the walls of existing homes are dense pack cellulose and water based injection foam. Effective wall insulation is important because it warm air inside your home during the winter (and keeps cold air out). And exterior wall insulation keeps cold air inside your home (and hot air out) during the hot summer months. Having installed injection foam wall insulation for two different companies when I was getting started in 2008 and seeing its deficiencies first hand, I opted to instead choose dense pack cellulose as the wall insulation solutions for Insulwise.

The main reasons for dense pack cellulose insulation's superiority are that it never shrinks or settles, perfectly fills the stud cavities, does an excellent job of air sealing, is virtually flame and mold proof, is a non-toxic sustainable material, and is typically far less expensive. This video gives good insights to these two materials, and shows how injection foam can look once it has been installed. Not good!
