Say hello to Makutu, the newest member of the Dallas Zoo’s chimpanzee family! Born on January 26, 2025, this little guy has had an incredible journey so far. As a first-time mom, JB tried her best to care for him, but she struggled to provide the constant nourishment and care he needed. That’s when our dedicated zoologists stepped in to give Makutu a helping hand—literally!

Now receiving 24/7 care, Makutu is growing stronger every day! He’s bottle-fed every three hours, monitored closely, and even has special fabric shirts to help him develop his natural grip—just like he would with his mom! Our ultimate goal? To reunite him with JB and his chimpanzee troop when he's strong enough.

And now… the moment we’ve all been waiting for—Makutu finally has a name! 🥰 His name means "ears" in Chichewa, and when you see those adorable big ears, you’ll know why!
