Magic of Rick Rossini — Honouring the Magic of Aaron Tang ✨
At the Celebration of Life for our father, Kok Chew (Aaron) Tang, on Friday, December 12th, we were honoured to have Rick Rossini, a local magician whose work my dad truly loved.
On July 1, 2022, in St. Catharines, we took Dad to see Rick perform at the Canada Day Celebration. Rick was incredibly kind — he introduced my father to the audience as a famous magician from Malaysia. Dad was 87 years old at the time, and the joy on his face in that moment is something we will never forget.
Magic had been part of Dad’s life from a very young age. His highlights included performing on Malaysian television and performing for the Monarch of Malaysia at the palace. He often shared stories of driving up to a sea of Mercedes, walking through grand hallways lined with large golden frames, and passing works by Picasso on his way to perform.
That love of magic never faded. Even into his late 80s, Dad continued to bring joy, laughter, and wonder to others — with friends in Mississauga, at Grandview Retirement Residence, and at AgeCare Long-Term Care, where his sense of play and curiosity remained very much alive.
Rick graciously performed throughout Dad’s Celebration of Life — both at the Magic Table and among the guests. Top hats were generously donated by Juliana and Sato, and many guests wore them as Rick moved through the room, creating moments of surprise, laughter, and shared wonder.
The magic unfolded surrounded by Dad’s photography and videos — a visual timeline of 94 years of life, compressed into two hours — allowing memory, movement, and illusion to coexist in the same space.
His magic included paper torn and restored,
three ropes — short, medium, long — made equal,
joined into one continuous circle…
and then returned to three again.
These moments beautifully echoed the ritual Robert shared — the red yarn coming together, being cut, and continuing — reminding us how magic so often reflects truths we already carry about life, connection, and passing.
Thank you, Rick, Juliana, and Sato, for your generosity, sensitivity, and care.
From one family of wonder to another — your magic mattered deeply.
