Ahmad Zahir is one of the most famous singers in the history of Afghanistan. He was born on June 14, 1946, in Kabul, and in the 1960s, he became a cultural icon and a familiar name in Afghanistan. His music was a combination of Afghan folk music, classical Indian music, and Western rock and pop. He sang in several languages, including Persian, Pashto, Urdu, and Hindi.

Ahmad Zahir was interested in music since childhood. He started learning music in his teenage years. After graduating from Habibiya High School, he enrolled in Kabul Teachers' College, also known as Darul -Malemen. After completing his studies, he went to India to pursue a degree in English language teaching. After finishing his studies in India and returning to Kabul, Zahir chose to work as a journalist for the English-language government newspaper, Kabul Times, which is still in print today. Zahir was not only a talented journalist but also a symbolic singer. While working at Kabul Times, he had the opportunity to make friends with many of his colleagues, who realized his great singing ability and encouraged him to pursue a career in music.

When Zahir moved from the radio to television programs, Zahir gave his clothes a style that resembled Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was a famous American songwriter in the 1950s and 1960s. Zahir’s appearance and talent attracted people's attention and he was invited to perform at more prestigious events. This led to his own concerts being held and he even reserved chic venues such as the Continental Hotel and larger stadiums in Kabul. At that time, Ahmad Zahir's actions were considered an innovative move in Afghan pop music.

During the 1960s, Zahir's career became successful and he became a sensation in Afghanistan. Throughout his career, he released more than 500 songs and many of them became classics that are still popular today. His music is known for its strong lyrics, beautiful melodies, and emotional vocals.

Zahir's life ended suddenly on his 33rd birthday, June 14, 1979, due to a car accident. His death was a great tragedy for Afghanistan, and his fans mourned his passing for years to come. Despite his sudden death at the age of 33, Zahir's music remains an integral part of Afghan culture and identity.
