Psalm 90 - Powerful Prayer of Confidence

Psalm 90 is one of the best known and most revered psalms in the Bible's Book of Psalms. Also called the "Prayer of Moses, the man of God", this psalm conveys a deep reflection on the brevity of human life and the eternity of God. Throughout the verses, we find words of adoration, humility, acknowledgment of divine sovereignty, and a plea for God to teach His servants to value each day and to live wisely.

This psalm is attributed to the prophet Moses, the leader of the people of Israel during the Exodus from Egypt and the journey through the desert towards the Promised Land. Moses, a man who lived an intense and challenging life, understood the importance of seeking refuge and safety in the presence of God. He recognized the transience of life and the need to submit to the divine will.

In Psalm 90, Moses draws a comparison between the eternity of God and the transience of human life. He points out that, in God's eyes, a thousand years are like a brief moment, just like a night's watch. Moses understands that our existence is fragile and fleeting, compared to the grandeur of the Creator.

Furthermore, Moses acknowledges divine justice by mentioning God's anger and wrath against sin. He understands that we are consumed by the wrath of God because of our iniquities and hidden sins. However, he also cries out for mercy and compassion, asking God to teach us to number our days and gain wisdom to make the most of the time given to us.
