If you are looking at a loft conversion for a trussed rafter roof, you may wish to span new loadbearing beams from front to back (eaves to eaves) rather than between gable walls. In fact, you may have a home that is too long between gable walls. In this video, Chartered Civil Engineer Robin de Jongh explains the benefits and pitfalls of placing beams between existing rafters supported on the front to rear wall.
