About this video
The track through the Devil's Staircase is one of the most popular hiking and jeep tracks in the hills of Sri Lanka. The difficulty levels and the spectacular view of the green mountains of Sri Lanka have made this hikers' paradise but only the most ardent hikers will undertake this 20 km hike.
This journey can start either from Ohiya or from Kalupahana. Generally, hikers choose the Bambarakanda Rest near Bambarakanfda Ella Falls as the starting point if they wish to start the journey from Kalupahana end. But for this journey, we choose to start from Ohiya by traveling on the train from Colombo Fort. This trail goes over old dilapidated estate roads through many estates.
The two most popular points on the route are the “V cut”, a channel cut through the hill to allow the road to pass through, missed to record in this video. You will come across this after entering the Udaweriya estate.
Passing this, the road will cross a stream that creates the tallest fall in the country, the Bambarakanda Falls.
On either side, you get reasonably good places to have a meal or snack with plain tea/coffee.
Search the Google map source then you will find the correct trail as search words “Ohiya station – Kalupahana Junction.
Enjoy!
