I’d like to discuss using CBD oil for pain relief. This seems to be an incredibly popular topic since CBD, and other cannabinoids found in the cannabis species of plants, became legal in 2018.

According to a study in 2016 (National Study on Drug Use and Health), “28.6 million people over the age of 12 have overused illicit drugs [pain killers] during the month prior to this study.” That comes out to about one in ten people.

This problem has only worsened. People are in pain, and they will, sometimes, do just about anything to help their pain.

In this article, we’ll explore all there is to know about why people prefer using CBD oil for pain.

Disclaimer: CBD has not been approved for use as a dietary supplement by the Food and Drug Administration. All claims made here, or anywhere else in regards to the efficacy of CBD for pain relief, or any other relief, have not been evaluated by the FDA.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s continue…

The Origins of Pain

Pain is a completely natural phenomenon. It occurs in all species regardless of their size or level of organization (i.e., tissue, organs, or larger systems).

To feel and process pain is very beneficial for survival because it is produced as a symptom of an underlying condition, just as a broken bone, or cut on the skin.

Several pain management clinics identify pain as chronic, or acute by the medical community.

We are wired with what are called pain receptors all throughout our bodies. Pain receptors (a.k.a. nociceptors for you science nerds out there), are simply a cluster of sensory neurons that have very specific nerve endings largely distributed throughout the skin, all types of tissues, and most of the visceral organs in our bodies.

Acute Pain

Acute pains are usually characterized by the normal sensation that alerts you about the presence of potential or current injuries to your body cells.

They often stimulate an inrush feeling, which notifies us to draw back from whatever may be causing the pain.

Some of the best CBD oils excel at helping relieve acute pains.

A large majority of people experience acute pain when they injure themselves. The area on the body that was injured begins to experience symptoms of pain. Many times this is due to inflammation of the surrounding area.

Inflammation is and important part of healing. That said, the anti inflammatory properties of hemp derived CBD products are incredible. The beneficial cannabinoids within CBD oil are able to interact with certain receptors which can aid in inflammation relief.

Chronic Pain

On the other hand, chronic pain has the potential to produce feelings that can be consistent for more than three months.

This type of pain is stimulated as symptoms of an underlying condition and typically require a medical treatment of sorts to get under control. A few examples of chronic pain are:

Cancer related pains
Lower back pain
Post-trauma pain
Neurogenic pain
Arthritic pain

Chronic pain patients are the people who deal with pain day in and day out, and, unfortunately, are more susceptible to becoming addicted to pain killers. CBD oil has little to no side effects, despite the on-going studies.

Addiction is a very, very nasty side effect that CBD oil users won’t have to worry about, either. CBD oil is completely no intoxicating, meaning it will not get you high. It’s just not possible.

One of the best things about the pain relieving benefits of CBD oil products is the fact that you won’t become addicted to them, and you won’t get high.

Nerve Pain
While nerve pain can be classified as either acute and/or chronic, it’s important to distinguish. This is because products like full spectrum CBD oil (broad spectrum, too) excel at helping dull nerve pain.

When it comes to nerve pain, CBD interacts with how the pain sensation in the nerve is felt. Many users of CBD oil report a big decrease in nerve pain after using it.

Where Do CBD Products Come From?
If you don’t already know, natural CBD oils come from cannabis. Cannabis contains both the hemp and marijuana plants.

Industrial hemp, or simply ‘hemp’, was legalized with the passing of the Farm Bill of 2018. As long as the hemp being grown, and the products derived from hemp, contain less than 0.3% THC content, they are federally legal.
