Rugby is a high impact sport, and those repeated impacts to the head can cause serious health problems over time. Unlike some high impact sports, rugby players don't wear helmets, leaving them vulnerable to head injuries. It also presents another problem - we can't embed tech in a helmet that might tell us about the forces they're absorbing with each tackle.

But modern tech has bridged this gap in a highly innovative way, using the players' mouth guards to measure the forces involved in the game, and feeding this data through to medical professionals in real time. Beyond a certain threshold, a player is pulled off the pitch for a head injury assessment.
