"When we dance, the thing in our heads is let's bring good energy. Let's dance for the people. Look at the elders and the children out there. Look at those who are watching and having observed us, let's show them pride and show them respect. Let's show them dignity and who we really are."

"Being able to come here and be amongst the Seminoles, they have a very strong culture and connectedness with their animals and their plants. They have a strong, connection with their land. And one of the unique things here about the Seminole tribe is, being an individual who comes from out of state and from out of the area, it's really empowering and inspiring to be amongst the people because they are some of the leaders in Indian country that help us to retain our sovereignty and that help us to retain our identity."

"I think it's really unique that a lot of different natives come here to Florida, like it's really out of the way and there's really only Seminole and Miccosukee that are (living) here. And I think it's really cool that they come from so far to visit our Pow Wow because they don't have to, they don't really have to. They go out of their way to do it. And I think that's probably the more amazing part of this Pow Wow here."

"So the tribal fair has been hosted on the same spot even before the Seminole Hard Rock was even a dream of the Seminoles. We've come together on this land right here to celebrate for the last 50 years, and I think that's the most exciting part. You know, we get to see people we haven't seen, and because of COVID, some of us haven't seen each other in over three years. And so I think this event is special because of that. You know, not only is it our 50th, but we're coming out of COVID. We're celebrating the fact that, you know, we're all still here."

LEADIN:

Native Americans from across the United States have travelled to south Florida for the annual Seminole Tribal Fair and Pow Wow.

Held at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, the three-day event gathered hundreds of people in a celebration of Native American culture including dance, costumes, music and food.

STORYLINE:

The Pow Wow is a traditional gathering of American Indians in which tribes reconnect and catch up once a year.






The US government recognises 574 Indian tribes in total.
