EN - An eleven meter high memorial column has been erected in Oosterbeek in memory of the 1944 airborne landings near Arnhem. A monument will be placed on top of it, in memory of the fallen. The Dutch sculptor Jacob Maris works in the garden of his studio in Heumen with two assistants on the finishing of this monument. Maris created works in wood, ceramics, artificial and natural stone. He made countless religious works thanks to his many contacts in the Catholic environment. Maris also took part in the art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics. After the war, as a former resistance fighter, he was commissioned for various war memorials in Oosterbeek, Nijmegen, Heumen, Tiel and Gennep.

NL - In Oosterbeek is een elf meter hoge herdenkingszuil opgericht ter herinnering aan de luchtlandingen van 1944 bij Arnhem. Op de top daarvan zal, ter nagedachtenis van de daarbij gesneuvelden, nog een monument worden geplaatst. De Nederlandse beeldhouwer Jacob Maris werkt in de tuin van zijn atelier in Heumen met twee assistenten aan de afwerking van dit monument. Maris creëerde werken in hout, keramiek, kunst- en natuursteen. Hij maakte talloze religieuze werken dankzij zijn vele contacten in het katholieke milieu. Maris nam ook deel aan de kunstwedstrijden op de Olympische Zomerspelen 1936. Na de oorlog kreeg hij, als oud-verzetsman, opdracht voor diverse oorlogsmonumenten in Oosterbeek, Nijmegen, Heumen, Tiel en Gennep.
