However, the excitement unraveled when it was revealed that a person hidden beneath the table was actually controlling the machine.

Nearly 250 years later, in 2016, Amazon introduced a similar illusion with its 'Just Walk Out' payment system. This technology enabled customers to pick up items and exit without manually scanning them, creating the illusion of autonomous transactions. However, the real breakthrough relied heavily on about 1,000 individuals in India, who monitored operations and ensured the accuracy of every payment.
