Today we have a mystery...that brings up thoughts of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. For some...its more so 2001 A Space Odyssey. Though the dimensions don't match...its definitely close to the monolith in the recognizable movie.

The mystery...is its origin...because the location is a mystery no longer! Thanks to "Bear F'er" on reddit the location has been identified!
The location in gps coordinates is 38 deg 20 min 33 sec N 109 deg 39 min 59 sec W

Estimated that it was installed in approximately 2015...its definitely been out there for a long time without being found! This Utah Art Installation is not the first random art piece found in the desert...but the question is...who installed it??

On November 18, 2020, the Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau was working with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to conduct a count of big horn sheep in a portion of southeastern Utah. While on this mission, they spotted an unusual object and landed nearby to investigate further.The crew members found a metal monolith installed in the ground in a remote area of red rock. The crew said there was no obvious indication of who might have put the monolith there.

While The exact location of the installation is not being disclosed in the offical press release...I told you here! I am not responsibile for you traveling to a very remote area where THERE IS a significant possibility you may become stranded and require rescue. This is about 12 miles NNE of the visitor's center for the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. Squaw Flat campground is probably going to be in high demand.

I'll end it with a reminder that it is illegal to install structures or art without authorization on federally managed public lands, no matter what planet you’re from. But if you do leave something...make it mysterious and fun like this!
