https://drjonathansykes.com/ -- A Bellafill nose job is simply an injection rhinoplasty using Bellafill which is a permanent filler that is injected under the skin to change the shape and contour of the nose. With surgical rhinoplasty we change the infrastructure of the nose by moving cartilage, removing bone, and suturing. After it heals, we see the new contour, but with an injection rhinoplasty patient’s see instant results. However there are pros and cons in using permanent filler for this type of procedure.

One of the pros of a Bellafill nose job is that it is a permanent change versus other nose jobs using filler that is absorbed by the body over time causing the nose to go back to the way it was. The cons of a permanent filler nose job is ironically the same as the pros. It’s permanent, so if you don’t like it, it’s harder to rectify. While everybody gets excited over permanence because something positive that lasts is great, but when the result is not positive, we want it to go away as quickly as possible.

How long does Bellafill last in the nose?
Bellafill is a permanent filler that lasts forever. For this reason, it’s important to choose a skilled surgeon to inject this filler because if too much filler is placed in an area, it may create a permanent bump. There is also always the chance of more serious problems such as occlusion of a blood vessel, and with a permanent filler we can’t dissolve it to free up the blood flow. These are all things to keep in mind, but most good surgeons are able to artistically inject and not get lumps, bumps, or occlusions..

Which filler is the best filler for the nose?
My personal choice for filler in the nose is not Bellafill. Instead I prefer fillers that can be reversed. I don’t want to indict this product because it’s a good product, but it is a product that creates some inflammation and if you have that inflammation the only way to get rid of it is to cut it out. We can’t get rid of it any other way.

However, with hyaluronic acid fillers, and there are many of them on the market, such as Juvederm and Restylane, they have varying thicknesses and viscosities which can be dissolved. So, if we have a lump or bump, any irregularity, or even an occlusion, we can reverse it with hyaluronidase which is an enzyme that dissolves filler.

It’s important to realize that injection rhinoplasty is only able to make the nose bigger. It may camouflage bumps and lift the tip which may make the nose more aesthetically pleasing or maybe even appear smaller when looking at it head on, but many of my patients who’ve had filler in the nose one or two times, tend to opt for surgical rhinoplasty in the future. If Bellafill was used and a patient wants to go the surgical route to make their nose smaller, we will have to cut the Bellfill out during their rhinoplasty.

The choice to do an injection rhinoplasty versus a surgical rhinoplasty is a personal choice. When patients are interested in changing the contours of their nose, I talk to them about all their options because I perform both injection and surgical rhinoplasties. Patients who have chosen injection rhinoplasty, love their results and I love performing this procedure with a filler that can be dissolved.

I help patients that have nasal problems every day in my practice. I’ve done it for 36 years, and I’d love to see you in my office to talk about your nose, your breathing, the contour of your nose, and the aesthetics of your nose.
