Varya Malina joined the TLC show with her boyfriend, Geoffrey Paschel, whom she met on an international dating website. After months of connecting online, Geoffrey made his way to Russia to finally meet the love of his life. Their relationship was far from perfect, but the Tennessee native asked his girlfriend to marry him, but Varya rejected the idea. Unpleased by what happened, Geoffrey made his way back to the United States, leaving the Russian beauty heartbroken.

When Varya got a visitor’s visa to the US, she immediately stepped foot in Tennessee to surprise Geoffrey. A problem arose when Varya knew about his boyfriend’s past lover, Mary, but the two were able to patch things up and ended up engaged. However, another issue challenged their relationship when Geoffrey was found guilty of kidnapping and assaulting his ex-girlfriend, which led him to stay in prison for 18 years without the possibility of parole.
