President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. warmly welcomes Her Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, as she begins her official visit to the Philippines on July 31, 2023.

During the ceremony, the European Commission President is accorded with arrival honors followed by a guest book signing at the Reception Hall in Malacañan Palace.

President von der Leyen’s visit to the country aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the European Union (EU) and the Philippines. The visit also intends to foster cooperation and collaboration in various sectors of mutual interests including trade, economy, development, maritime, climate and environment, space cooperation and digital connectivity, among others.

The milestone visit holds great significance in the renewed momentum of EU-Philippines bilateral relations, as it marks the first official visit by a President of the European Commission in nearly 60 years of diplomatic ties.
