Aladdin is a Middle-Eastern folk tale. It is one of the best-known tales associated with The Arabian Nights. Aladdin is an impoverished young ne'er-do-well who is recruited by a sorcerer who passes himself off as the brother of Aladdin's late father. The sorcerer's real motive is to persuade young Aladdin to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a magic cave. It was included in The One Thousand and One Nights collection and published in 1710.

It was adapted by Disney for the 1992 animated movie of the same name.
