In this video I briefly explain why the 2016 Chevy Traverse which I previously drove for work had a bothersome way of playing a specific song by Styx nearly every time I connected my iPhone to charge it will I was driving. I'm thankful that the 2025 Ford Explorer which I'm driving for work now does NOT behave the same way.

It would seem that the car stereo in the 2016 Traverse was designed to interact with an iPod rather than an iPhone. So, whenever I connected my iPhone to the Traverse, it went straight to the phone's music library and played the very first song in the library. Based on the name of each song, the "first' one in alphabetical order was "A.D. 1928", which is the first track on the Styx album Paradise Theatre from the year 1981. That song is actually just the introduction to the other album and, when you listen to it by itself, it cuts off just as it starts building momentum. So it's really not satisfying to hear that song all by itself.

ANYWAY, a co-worker of mine once told me of a similar experience with his iPhone in a car. Every time he plugged in his phone, the car would start playing a particular song by Prince with a title which began with the letter A. Obviously, it was the "first" song in his phone's music library. Again, I'm happy to tell you that the Apple Car Play app in the 2025 Ford Explorer doesn't automatically start playing music unless you were already listening to something on your iPhone when you connected the phone to the car.
