SLR Magic
Anamorphot-65
1.33x anamorphic adapter

Paired with Canon 24-70mm

Here is some very early and basic testing out of the anamorphic adapter with a zoom lens in a n attempt to get an anamorphic zoom lens.

What works:

For composed shots with no focus pulling, where you might want to change your framing with a zoom instead of moving the camera
Closer or farther away, this is an interesting choice.

The main problem is that you need to focus on both the adapter and on the lens, which is quite clumsy a process even when mounted on a tripod. In this scenario, the adapter is more trouble than it is worth. I will say however that the adapter is somewhat forgiving in that you can achieve acceptable focus without super precise adjustment. Nevertheless, works bet when you carefully compose your shot and your subject remains at same focal distance.

The reason why I got the adapter, is to test it on different focal lengths and see if there was one that I liked specifically which was the advantage over say getting one of the cheaper anamorphic lenses such as the 35mm offering from SIRUI. However, a dedicated lens is definitely the way to go.

Other things to consider.

Here I am using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k, which has anamorphic de-squeeze which comes in handy. Built-in ND's would be amazing. I do like the image the BMPCC 4K produces though.

Need to do more testing for sure.
