Описание к видео U.S. troops responding to the earthquake in Haiti go on patrol in some of the hardest hit areas of P

(17 Jan 2010) HEADLINE: U.S. soldier returns to his native Haiti for relief effort
CAPTION: Junior Florestal and his family left Haiti for Florida when he was 13. Now he''s back in his homeland as a member of the U.S. Army, assisting with earthquake relief efforts. (Jan. 17)
[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]
(Port-au-Prince, Haiti)
Junior Florestal lived in Port au Prince until he was 13, but joined the U-S army when his mom took the family to Florida for a better life.
This is the first time he''s been back since
As a member of the US Army''s 82nd Airborne, he''s now stationed on the front-line of the relief effort here.
(Junior Florestal, US Army)
SOUND BITE
The army has established a base at a Port au Prince country club at the top of the hill.
At the base of the hill, next to homes destroyed by the earthquake, is a survivors camp estimated at tens of thousands of people.
While helping distribute supplies, a cousin comes for food and water and Florestal learns his family here survived the quake.
(Junior Florestal, US Army)
SOUND BITE
Florestal is also one of the few soldiers who speaks the local language, French Creole.
NATURAL SOUND BREAK: MEN TALKING TO FORESTAL IN FRENCH
These men are concerned that the food is only going to the strongest who can push their way to the front of the line.
They want the army to cordon off the survivors camp into four quadrants, and then bring food and water to those areas.
But it''s a logistical impossibility, so instead the army invites children and women to come and retrieve food and water supplies.
In order to avoid people getting in line twice, they mark their fingernails with a black marker to show they have received today''s food.
Yesterdays'' color was yellow.
This little boy takes his food and water deep into the survivors camp, to share with his sister and brother.
No parents in sight.
NATURAL SOUND : US SOLDIER SAYING "BACK SI VOUS PLAIT! BACK SI VOUS PLAIT!"
(Ted Shaffrey, The Associated Press)
As word spread there was food and water here, the crowd grew bigger and bigger."
NATURAL SOUND OF GIRLS CRYING
After a while, the army ran out of food, and water was running short too.
The army stepped in, along with the help of some locals, to contain the crowd of hungry and thirsty.
There was real concern that the most in need of medical attention, food and water were deep in the crowd, and not able to come forward to where the US soldiers have set up a barrier.
Those who did make it were treated, like this young boy.
