Madeley Stafforshire | 4.5 Walk/Run Wrinehill, Checkley Brook & Bowsey Wood

Описание к видео Madeley Stafforshire | 4.5 Walk/Run Wrinehill, Checkley Brook & Bowsey Wood

Today on run adventurer we are in Madeley in Staffordshire (not to confused with Madeley in Shropshire). Located between Nantwich and Newcastle under Lyme its just over the border from Cheshire into Staffordshire. Lovely spot for a visit there is a pool produced by Damming the River Lea for the local grain mill which has long since gone but the pool remains. Stop and feed the geese, enjoy a pint in the Offley Arms or fish and chips from the Poolside Fish Bar after your walk or run. We start with a quick lap of the pool before taking the path to Wrinehill and then the path past Checkley Brook to Bowsey Wood and back to Madeley.

The path is not very well marked and some of them don’t show up on view ranger, this route would be best navigated by getting the Ordinance Survey App for your phone (£25 per year) and downloading the included OS route. I’ll include a turn by turn guide with pictures for those who don’t have the app. (I’ll do this tomorrow, promise!)

The Route

Starting from Moss Lane by the Pool take the path on the left which takes you around the pool and comes out by the Offley Arms. Turn left on Poolside then left into Furnace Lane. You will eventually reach a footpath on your right that crosses the fields to Wrinehill. Head up the field going straight on (ignore the other path on the right where it branches). Cross the stile and follow the edge of the field to your right. When you reach the pylon turn right and follow the line of trees. The next stile is in the right hand corner of the field to the right of the next pylon. Cross the stile and turn left, you will see 3 houses on the horizon, the path comes out next to the one on the right. The path comes out on the main road into Wrinehill, turn left and follow it to the edge of Wrinehill then take the path marked Bowsey Wood on the right. The path crosses a field, at the gate bear left, the path joins another path from Wrinehill which runs left to right, at the far side of the field join it and turn right and follow the edge of the field. You will reach a kissing gate, turn right and through the next gate to the track and turn right. After a short distance the path turns right and across the fields by Checkley Brook. Go straight on, you go through another gate the path comes out to the right of the house ahead. Head down the track and at the end turn right and immediately left pass a row of houses, through the gate into Bowsey Wood. Follow the track then take the next track on the right which comes out on Heighley Lane. Turn right to the junction with Main Road and turn right and cross the road, the next left is Heighley Castle Way, at the junction there is a path on the left that runs alongside the road finally coming out on the road further up, take this and the where it comes out turn left and follow the road, at eh 90 degree bend turn left into New Road and follow it to the end, it comes out on Newcastle Road right next to Furnace lane, turn right and then turn right again into Moss lane back at the starting point.
