April 17, 2001 - Saving his best for (almost) last, Ben Wallace finished with a career-high 28 rebounds (8 offensive) in a 94-92 overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors in the penultimate game of Wallace's first year with the Detroit Pistons.

Arriving in Detroit as a relative unknown, Wallace grew to embrace his powers as his inaugural season with the Pistons wore on, averaging 16.9 rebounds and 3.2 blocks over his final 23 games of the 2000-01 season.

Wallace's finish to an otherwise underwhelming Pistons campaign served as a portent of things to come. The following season, Wallace ran away with Defensive Player of the Year honors, leading the NBA in both rebounds (13.0) and blocks (3.2) while propelling the Pistons to their first division title in a decade.

For the record, Wallace matched his career-high of 28 rebounds during the 2001-02 season, nabbing 28 (again with 8 offensive) to go along with 13 points and 6 blocks in a win over Boston.
