This is a video of my husband, Andrew, body-skiing down Volcan Villarica in Pucon, Chile. The volcano is one of the most active in Chile and stands at 2 800 metres above sea level. You can just see the lava from the rim of the smoking volcano when you are at the top, and the town of Pucon still has a daily warning system and indicator in case it decides to erupt!

To earn the reward of body-sliding two kilometres down the snowy slopes of Volcan Villarica, you first have to hike up it: a five-hour feat with full snow-gear, poles, masks and crampons. Once you're at the top, you get fitted with a plastic paddle (for your bum) to help you slide extra fast down the "alleys" the guides create. You start as if to slide down a water slide, and then you're away, snow spraying in your face, and only your ice pick to slow you down (if you want to slow down!). Down was way better than up, an exhilarating feeling with an amazing view across the volcano filled landscape.
