The first malaria treatment for newborns and young infants has been approved by Swissmedic, with rapid approvals expected across eight African countries. This means the antimalarial toolbox just got stronger, bringing hope to the smallest patients.

Each year, 30 million babies are born in malaria-endemic regions of Africa. Until now, no approved treatment existed for this age group. Closing this critical gap is a major milestone and a testament to the power of global partnerships driving innovation towards a malaria-free future.

This breakthrough treatment was developed by Novartis, with scientific and financial support from MMV, as part of the PAMAfrica consortium – co-funded by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
