Please note: The second knowledge check question from Part 2 is meant to be specific to Asian tiger mosquitoes. Some other types of mosquitoes do lay their eggs directly in water, but Asian tiger mosquitoes do not.

The Asian tiger mosquito is currently an expanding invasive species in the Northeast region of the US that is capable of spreading diseases, like West Nile virus, dog heartworm, and Eastern equine encephalitis (aka “Triple E”). This northern boundary is being tracked by a citizen science project run by the Northeast Regional Center for Excellence in Vector-borne Diseases. This project is part of a larger effort on the development of climate-informed decision-support tools for the prevention of Aedes-borne disease in the US through Columbia University’s Earth Institute, funded by the International Research and Applications Program (IRAP) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Award NA18AOR4310339).
