United States lawmakers from both Democratic and Republican parties have asked for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle over her failure to identify and halt the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.

During the House Oversight Committee hearing on Monday, lawmakers questioned Cheatle and her agency's poor security arrangements. Cheatle termed the security lapse a major operational failure of the Secret Service in decades. But she insisted she was the best person to head the Secret Service currently.
