The western Worlds War against motorists! Are Electric vehicles just a new tool for state control?

Happy New Year! looking at the limitations of electric vehicles compared with The Internal combustion engine they are replacing. The fact that Governments are ignoring other ways of powering travel, and the draconian restrictions on our movement that are quickly being rolled out across the UK.
Is it possible that the electric vehicle has been imposed upon us solely to restrict our travel due to its high cost, short range and troublesome refueling requirements?
