New Film The Wolf Within launches on WaterBear, backed by 300+ NGOs – A Timely Call to Protect Europe’s Wolves
Following the 45th anniversary of the Bern Convention, WaterBear, The European Nature Trust and Io Non Ho Paura Del Lupo are proud to present The Wolf Within, a powerful and timely documentary that explores the delicate balance between wolves and humans in Europe. This poignant film has premiered on WaterBear, shining a light on the importance of wolf conservation at a critical moment in the fight to protect Europe’s wildlife.
Celebrating the Bern Convention’s 45th Anniversary
Adopted in 1979, the Bern Convention – Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats – has been a cornerstone of wildlife protection across Europe. It has safeguarded species and habitats, serving as the foundation for the EU Birds and Habitats Directives. However, just a year after the ambitious Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was agreed upon, the European Commission is now proposing to weaken wolf protection. This decision is spreading across Europe, threatening to undermine decades of progress, potentially allowing increased wolf culling across Europe.
A Critical Call to Action
This proposed change means now is a pivotal moment. More than 300 NGOs and over 310,000 supporters, including previous petitioners, are rallying to maintain strict protections for wolves. Europe’s biodiversity is not only a vital part of our natural heritage but also essential for the health of ecosystems and future generations.
The Wolf Within brings these issues to life, offering a profound reflection on coexistence in a world where the future of wolves hangs in the balance.
