Evergrace (2000)

Composer: Kota Hoshino
Producer: Masanori Takeuchi
Developer: FromSoftware

Requested by ValhallaVOD. Thanks so much! I was able to honour this request pretty quickly because I had that thumbnail lying around from a while ago. Obviously, it's gotta be Sharline because this song is exclusive to her route. (actually, in the novel, it's... well, I'll leave that for the comment section!)

This, oddly, is the one song that's not on Ostzilla's Evergrace playlist. Apparently it was taken down for violating Youtube's terms of service. I wonder how long ago that happened...? There was only one video of this individual track on Youtube, such a mystery. As a small note, the OST version ends its track at the beginning of the first loop, but I don't have the ability to make it trail off like that version, sorry!

I never enjoyed this part of the game, and I'm sure the Human Research Lab was the endpoint for many childhood playthroughs. The puzzles are obtuse, the hints are vague, and this song... Oh, this blaring song of strange horns, that sitar-like intro, and that slightly out of sync xylophone. It's so hostile, like the laboratory wants you to leave immediately. I wanna leave, too!

While Evergrace concerns its story with the development of the AI Crest, if you take a look around the lab after playing through Forever Kingdom you'll see a lot of Palmira Doll development lying around. From the cultivation room, to the red/blue goddess keys, to the Sharline/Sienna Palmira Doll fights... It links the two games in an interesting way - remember, the Al Crest was a top secret experiment, the Rieubane Empire's main goal was those dolls. Also, did you know that the Japanese version has bloodstains on the floor?

Naming-wise, I went with AI Crest rather than the Japanese term of Alcrest because... well, that's what it's called in the localization. It's pretty confusing since I and l look almost the same, but to be clear: It's pronounced ey-ai-crest in the localization (think artificial intelligence), and ahlcrest (think arukuresuto) in the original. I wonder if the name has to do with alchemy, but the A.I theming isn't a bad stretch either.

Also, check out my in-game version of Piercing the Heavens here! I've attached some important information bout the Evergrace OST as a whole in the description of that video:    • Evergrace OST - Piercing the Heavens ...

Thumbnail compiled from a few sources, such as the logo taken from an official wallpaper, and the art of Sharline taken right off the current Fromsoftware website. They also use that art on a promotional Evergrace telephone card. I just bought one off Mercari. lol.
