Los Angeles - Grand Performances (GP), the longest-running presenter of high quality free programs in downtown LA, is proud to announce the upcoming Feature Presentation from Jungle Fire, premiering on Wednesday August 19th, 2020 at 8pm PST on YouTube.

This cinematic music experience is the third installment of Grand Performances’ Summer 2020 series of online Feature Presentations, continuing the organization's mission to inspire community, celebrate diversity, and unite Los Angeles through free access to global performing arts.

This performance is made possible in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

For the last decade, Jungle Fire has forged a unique style they call “Tropi-Funk,” a seamless mix of Latin, West African, and American funk. The 10-piece band pulls influences from the music of legends like Irakere, Ray Barretto, James Brown, Fela Kuti and Manu Dibango

With a passionate fanbase, and legacy of hard-to-find vinyl releases on tastemaker record labels Nacional and Colemine, Jungle Fire previous album “Jambú” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Latin charts and was featured in a wide variety of films, including and the soundtrack to Lionsgate’s “How to Be a Latin Lover” with Salma Hayek plus TV commercials for Starbucks, Nike, VICE and the 2019 Emmy Awards

The diverse backgrounds of Jungle Fire's members are a direct reflection of the musical and cultural landscape of Los Angeles. With a unique melting pot of global rhythms and local perspective, members of Jungle Fire have recorded and toured with Stevie Wonder, Ozomatli, De La Soul, La Santa Cecilia, LCD Soundsystem, U2, Celia Cruz, and many others.

ABOUT GRAND PERFORMANCES: Hailed as the “Best Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series” by Los Angeles Magazine and called “a grand gift to the public” by The Los Angeles Times, Grand Performances celebrates its 34th season of presenting high-quality music, dance, theater, and more in 2020.
