This video shows how to remove the shower screen without removing the group head. Having watched a few videos and comments recently about removing the shower screen, I happened upon this technique. First, remove the piston rod nuts and front lever pin. Then press down on the piston rod with a wrench sideways. "Well, look at that!" Even I am surprised!

Don't put too much pressure on the group-boiler bolts! This works best if your portafilter gasket is fairly new (not brittle and hard) and/or lubed. It's also good to have a second portafilter gasket on hand if it gets damaged during removal.
