Unlawful Practice of Law

Victim advocates possess substantial knowledge of, and experience with, justice systems. The victims that they serve look to advocates to answer questions about those systems and their rights. It is important that victim advocates are able to provide accurate and timely information and services to victims, and to do so without crossing into practicing law. This training video examines the unlawful practice of law by identifying the key components of what makes something the unauthorized practice of law; describing practices to avoid; and articulating why avoiding the unauthorized practice of law is important for victims and advocates.
