The nominee as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, @robertfkennedyjr appears tomorrow at the Senate Committee on Finance (oh the irony) that will move his nomination forward to a full Senate vote. Here in the U.S., we throw more money at healthcare than any other developed country out there, but guess what? We’re not exactly coming out on top as a matter of fact, we are at the very bottom when it comes to health. 6 in 10 Americans have a chronic disease, and Americans consume HALF of the global prescription drugs. Despite spending about 18% of our GDP on medical care—that’s twice what many other rich countries spend—we’ve got some of the worst health outcomes. We’re talking lower life expectancies, more chronic diseases, and higher baby death rates compared to places like Australia or the Netherlands, where they spend less but get better results. It’s a real head-scratcher, but it’s probably because of things like our crazy high admin costs, not everyone having access to healthcare, and the uneven quality of care across the board.

We need radical change in every agency around our food, our pharmaceuticals, our healthcare, our insurance, and ultimately are complicit and captured organizations that care more about money than Americans well-being.
