An exciting new mosaic project...the creation of (replica) a Native American ritual mask, in a mosaic style.

This Navaho style mask, carved from Cedar and painted in Pyrite green will be covered in a traditional, semi-precious stone...Turquoise.

As would have done by Native craftsmen, I am using Cypress sap to secure the stones to the wooden mask, to decorate in an authentic style...similar ( as closely as I can) to the original.

The eyes and teeth of this mosaic are Mother of Pearl, they glint and shine so beautifully, giving real "life" to the face.

As you can see, I have the pattern drawn out on the mask, now I just need to cut more stone to size, leaving some bigger pieces for bigger areas, but this is such an exciting piece, that I feel very motivated to carry on!
