Pakistan is facing two significant issues: the growing public outrage following the heartbreaking death of a toddler in Karachi and the ongoing confusion regarding the delay in the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) notification. In Karachi, three-year-old Ibrahim tragically fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi, igniting widespread anger among residents. People took to the streets, blocking roads, burning tires, and clashing with media teams, all while blaming authorities for years of negligence. Mayor Murtaza Wahab found himself under fire during a tense press conference, where a reporter challenged him about the city’s deteriorating infrastructure and slow response times. In response, Wahab vowed to ensure accountability, ordered investigations into the missing manhole cover, and promised to fully support the grieving family, while political leaders from MQM and JI pointed fingers at the Sindh government for its repeated failures in civic management.
At the same time, confusion persisted regarding the CDF notification, as ministers like Rana Sanaullah, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Mohsin Naqvi, and Khawaja Asif repeatedly dismissed rumors of delays. They explained that the new CDF institution—established after the 27th Constitutional Amendment—requires a series of procedural steps and can’t just be set up “at the press of a button.” Officials criticized the political speculation and announced plans to tackle fake news, with the NCCIA gearing up to take action against the spread of misinformation.
