A Strain Gauge Wheatstone Bridge Instrumentation Amplifier is explained in this video to measure and report the value of Tensile or Compressive Strain in a given structure or mechanical component on which Strain Gauge is applied. Strain Gauge is a sensor that converts strain to electrical resistance that is reduced when the gauge is compressed and is increased when the strain gauge is stretched due to the increased length of the metal wires of the strain gauge. The change in resistor value is sensed by a Wheatstone bridge that converts the resistance change to a voltage change that is then applied as the input voltage of a dual op amp differential amplifier. Both operational amplifiers are properly biased with negative feedback resulting in benefiting from virtual short. These two op amps are effectively wired as non-inverting amplifier or inverting amplifier. And it is shown that the output voltage of this Strain Gauge bridge IA circuit is just linearly proportional to the strain coefficient of the strain gauge.
