'Pulse' is a departure from Andy’s solo acoustic guitar compositions. ‘Pulse’ was composed and performed on keyboards. Andy wanted to create this new musical landscape for a few different reasons. "I wanted to release some music that wasn’t too complicated in its’ approach, something that wasn’t too demanding on the listener. I wanted to offer something instantly accessible," says McKee. "I also wanted to push myself as an artist to see what I could create that didn’t involve a guitar. When you stick with one instrument you may find yourself making similar moves, and using a keyboard made me think differently which made me create music that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. I really felt it was important to create music that could help take stress away. We are living in some difficult and unclear times. Many people, including myself, could use something to help calm ourselves. This music aims to do that."

For the song “Olo,” McKee said, "Olo is a tune about the longing we get in our hearts when we miss someone we love. The tune begins with the elvish phrase “Gazing at i ëar, ni ólo your péle” and is later translated into English as “Gazing the ocean, I dream of your return” which is accompanied by a somber modular shift while maintaining the melody.”
