In this video we are going to show you how to use the upper body properly to create a slingshot effect to maximize arm speed and minimize the chance of injury from the throw.

We first go over how if we do not utilize the upper body properly we will put strain on the arm in effort to gain velocity.

To use the upper body properly we have to stretch out the abdominal muscles as we stride to the plate. To time this move we begin stretching as our stride foot goes towards the plate. This is a simultaneous move being as we have our abdominal muscles full stretched with our stride foot plants.

From there we will work the center of our chest down towards our lead foot in a slightly around and downward move. This move should be thought of as mainly downwards to keep away from spinning out.

We will go over a step-by-step progressive drill sequence to learn this move simply and effectively. Firstly we take the ball out of the equation and work on the move. Then we are going to work on timing the stretching of the abdominal muscles with the landing of the stride foot. The next progression we will work from the stride position and the center of our chest down towards our stride foot.

The next progression we start making throws making sure we are timing the stretching of the abdominal muscles with the landing of the stride foot and pulling our chest towards our stride foot ending in a flat back finish.
