They get some initial success with training regularly and reducing their caloric intake, then they plateau and usually attempt 1 or more of the following:

1. Try a fat loss meal plan and /or attempt to remain on the same caloric intake they used to lose weight / body fat... this is usually unsustainable and creates a whole bunch of issues

2. They ask other athletes for a copy of their meal plans... not realising the amount of individualisation that goes into their plan

3. They get obsessed with tracking and then get creative with what they can eat as long as it fits within their macros, they apply "cheatmeals" inappropriately

4. They rely heavily on processed fitness supplements such as protein shakes, protein bars, sugar free goodies, BCAAs, pre-workouts and so on

5. They attempt advanced nutrition protocols or restrictive diets without understanding all the context and appropriate application

Personal confession, I have been guilty of making 80% of the above mistakes.

How you can avoid these mistakes?

1. Focus on mastering your relationship with food, meal prepping routines and eating behaviours first

2. Focus on eating more nutrient dense and diverse wholefoods

3. Spend years and 10s of 1000s of dollars on upskilling your nutrition knowledge beyond Tik Tok videos and bro science

4. Use tracking appropriately on a broad spectrum of bio-pyscho measures and conduct controlled experiments

5. Save yourself time and work with a qualified sports nutrition coach to accelerate your progress...
