Описание к видео U.C. Police to introduce two new positions for safety

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Ohio (Adam Clements) -- Things are quiet on the campus at the University of Cincinnati, but in a couple weeks there will be a flurry of activity when classes get back up and running. Things will look a lot different in terms of the U.C. Police Department as well. Monday morning, the school will introduce former Cincinnati Police Assistant Chief James Whalen as its new Director of Public Safety. Whalen brings a stellar track record to the department having implemented an evidence based investigation process to the city's department. He also helped to start CIRV, a program designed to reduce gun violence in the streets. Along with Whalen, S. Gregory Baker will be introduced as the school's Director of Police Community Relations. Baker was also instrumental in the CIRV program. In terms of Whalen, Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black says, the city's loss is the university's gain. "U.C. has presented him with a very significant professional opportunity. I can only wish him well and be thankful that's he's going to still be in the city of Cincinnati," Black said. The school is making these changes to security in the wake of last month's officer-involved shooting, in which the now fired University officer Ray Tensing shot and killed Samuel Dubose following a traffic stop in Mount Auburn. Since then, University Police have suspended their patrols off campus. Follow Adam Clements on Twitter @aclementswkrc and LIKE him on Facebook.
