(FYI: If you ever need to give an example of the overwhelming power of the internet, you can use the following: Until Super Bowl Sunday, there was no such phrase as "Left Shark." Less than two weeks later, if you google that phrase, there are like a zillion entries.)

1. As this old-, old-, old-, old-time fight fan can attest, it's a rarity to ever get two undefeated boxers together at one time, let alone three.

Were four future boxing champions together this week at the Lake Couinty Boxing Club that's located in the Libertyville Sports Complex? They are unbeaten (7-0) pro boxer Nick Asberry from Waukegan, unbeaten (0-0) amateur boxer and Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, unbeaten (0-0) amateur boxer and Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz, and Cam Awesome, who is the No. 1-ranked amateur super-heavyweight in the U.S. Photo provided by Larry Lentz (Larry Lentz, HANDOUT)
Yet, three is what we got one day this week at the Lake County Athletic & Boxing Club, which is located on the balcony above the basketball courts at the Libertyville Sports Complex.

The one boxer who is not (yet) a champion is Cam Awesome, who currently is No. 1 in the U.S. Amateur ranks in the super-heavyweight division (201-plus pounds).

Awesome was at the Libertyville club to get in some sparring with undefeated pro heavyweight Nick Asberry from Waukegan. The 6-5, 235-pound Asberry is 7-0 as a pro, but there are not a lot of sparring partners in the corner of the world that is Lake County, so Awesome is here to hone his skills and help Asberry get ready for future fights.

They shared the boxing facility one day with two undefeated amateur boxers — "undefeated" as in a 0-0 record. They would be Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran and Village of Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz.

They will be part of the three-day amateur boxing festival on May 1-3 that is being organized by Larry Lentz, who runs the Lake County Boxing Club and also trains Asberry.

And yes, he's helping train the sheriff and mayor for their victorious ring debuts on May 1 as part of the Badges vs. Bad Guys event that will kick off the festival, which will be held at the Libertyville Sports Complex.

On May 1, there will be an amateur boxing show with perhaps a dozen bouts. They will feature many young fighters who hope to someday become pro boxers or get into Mixed Martial Arts fighting.
