Описание к видео N64 Mystery Song (Pilotwings 64 Beta Jetpack Theme?)

UPDATE: Tentatively identified as unused jetpack theme from beta version of Pilotwings 64. Old description follows:

I've spent literal decades wondering what in the hell this is.

"Nintendo 64 Original Soundtrack Greatest Hits" is a video game soundtrack compilation released to promote the Nintendo 64 in 1996. Its creation was unchecked, unsupervised, and bewildering. Whatever the orders were, whoever mastered this release did not pay attention to what they were doing or check their work, resulting in fascinating errors.

For one, the first five tracks (Killer Instinct Gold) are different on the CD and tape releases; the tape uses the arranged versions (as probably intended) while the CD release has the MIDI versions... Of 4 of the 5 songs. Track 4, Glacius, was somehow substituted with an asset file of hitting and grunting sound effects for the CD release.

Then there's Wave Race. An absolute bop, but the song isn't from Wave Race 64. I've heard tell that it's from the arcade game, but I've never been able to find it. And it probably shouldn't loop as many times as it does. I think whoever did the mastering forgot to cut it down.

But all that pales in comparison to the most bizarre mistake I've ever heard on a commercial music release: this song. What is it? I don't know. No one I've played it to has ever known either. It comes in between track 17 (Mountain Bay 2) and track 18 ("It's A Me, Mario!"), but only on the tape version, it's not on the CD at all. And it's not printed in the track list of either release, so it's probably not supposed to be there. But the best part is, you get to listen to it not once, not twice, but FIVE times. This unlisted track plays on this cassette tape 5 times in a row, for your enjoyment. Each silent pause at its end ratchets up the dramatic tension as you brace yourself: will it happen again? It gets to the point where one is classically conditioned to hear that drum pattern after the silent pause as a punchline. You really need to loop this video 5 times to get the full experience.

So, do you have any idea what this song is?
