If you're a Houstonian, you probably have some idea who those people are (editor’s note: for those who aren’t from the city that’s “too hot for revolution”, “kickers” are shit kickers aka cowboys and “FFA-ers” are the Future Farmers of America - some real hick shit). They hated us! 'Hey, you punk rock faggots!' They would always be making fun of us. Sometimes we would run up and kiss them and hug them, just to upset them. They didn't like that very much. But at the same time, there was an underground group of kids that really liked us and really appreciated us. • Pierre Luigi’s blurb for the soulless discography product series churn part 75 that prompted Telles’ 2015 musing likened Vast Majority to The Shaggs charming ineptitude combined with The Urinals attitude. He’s not wrong about that at all. What IS wrong is the barebones-at-best and oft poorly executed packaging of all (or at least the vast majority - har har - not including the actual VM one that actually has pretty cool art) of the Rave-UP releases! Look at me rantin’ a Rave-Up storm about the wrong shit…
• What a glorious mess this EP! Everything about it is absolutely perfect. The stumbling drums, the biting guitar tone, the rubbery bass, the angsty zit popper vocals, the cut and paste layout… all of it. “I Wanna Be A Number” was on a mixtape a friend made for me back in the early 90’s and from the first note I was in love. I absolutely had to track down a copy of the record so I could hear more. I did and here it is. It’s not a perfect copy by any means but it is mine and it rules.
