Famous actor and director Mel Gibson has recently arrived at Mount Athos — also known as the “Holy Mountain” — a thousand-year-old monastic community in northern Greece and one of the most sacred places in Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

He is currently staying at Hilandar Monastery, one of the 20 historic monasteries on the peninsula, founded by Serbian saints in the 12th century.

Gibson, who is widely respected by Christians for directing The Passion of the Christ, is spending several days in silence and prayer.
During his stay, he reportedly said:
“I’ve never felt such a deep connection with God as I do here.”

May his time at Mount Athos inspire and guide him as he continues work on his upcoming film The Resurrection of Christ.
