Premiering in 1994, with banger of a techno genre theme song, this staple NewSport prime-time talk show featured charismatic host Chet Coppock (d. April 17, 2019) interviewing notable & sometimes legendary sports figures. NewSporTalk (it's a clever double contraction!) managed to make it to its' 500th & a little bit beyond. On the air from Oct. 1, 1993 until July 9, 1997, NewSport became the very first (USA) 24 hour national sports news channel. Along with sports news, & a lively talk show, NewSport introduced a prominent innovative feature in 1995, the "NewSport Score Box", a “ticker” that updated scores & game starts in real-time. For a portion of 4 years, the Rainbow Programming Holdings endeavor had, at its’ peak, up to 10 million cable, DirecTV satellite, & over the air TV viewers enjoying the latest sports news & talk at all hours of the day. That is, until ESPNEWS hit the air Nov. 1, 1996, with their "Bottom Line" sports score ticker.
