Nokia hopes to entice consumers with its latest smartphone featuring 5 cameras.
The company is releasing the Nokia 9 Pureview at the MWC19 in Barcelona.
The company is also launching four other mobile phone device, which includes a low end feature phone allowing users access to the internet with a low $35 price tag.
STORYLINE:
The star feature of Nokia's latest smartphone, the Nokia 9 Pureview, is its impressive camera feature.
The device has five individual cameras that take photos simultaneously.
This allows it to capture images that are much truer to what the human eye can see, something previous phone camera technology has not allowed.
Nokia is releasing this smartphone at a time when the enitre industry struggles to come up with new features compelling enough to end a slump in sales.
Neil Broadley, the Head of Product Marketing at HMD, which is the company that owns Nokia, explains some of the key features of the Nokia 9 Pureview
" So we're really excited to be introducing the all new Nokia 9 Pureview. This is the world's first five camera array smartphone. To have five 12 megapixel cameras that works simultaneously so every time we take a picture all five cameras shoot at once and then we fuse that image together into one incredible photo. There are a few key advantages of this set up."
"It gives us great dynamic range, beautiful texture and detail even in areas of shadow and bright sunlight. We have incredible depth of field, so a full 12 megapixel depth map so we know the position of all the different elements within the shot. And we allow you even to adjust and edit the focus after the shot in Google Photos and finally with the Nokia 9 Pureview you can shoot in raw DNG format so raw format means you keep all of the lovely data captured by those five cameras, and with our partnership with Adobe Lightroom you can edit that raw file right there directly on the Nokia 9 Pureview" he adds.
HMD originally owned Nokia, sold it to Microsoft and then bought the mobile phone company back in December 2016.
The company's main focus with the Nokia mobile devices is not actually on the high end smartphone market, but rather on low end mobile phones for on emerging markets
The Nokia 210 feature phone is such a device that allows users basic internet access, with the phone costing a fraction of Nokia's smartphone device.
"The reason the Nokia 210 is so significant is it is our most affordable internet product in the portfolio. So, we're bringing access to the Internet the ability to access all that information and opportunity but also take pictures and post it to your favourite social networks like Facebook at an incredible global average retail price of just thirty five US dollars" explains Broadley.
HMD is also releasing two value smartphones aimed at the mid tier market.
The Nokia 3.2 and 4.2 will set consumers back $139 and $169 respectively, while the Nokia9 Pureview will cost $699.
"We're introducing two new value tier smartphones the Nokia 3.2 and the Nokia 4.2 both of these smartphones feature a dedicated Google assistant button. It the fastest way to your Google assistant and we use it in conjunction with biometric face unlock technology so it means you can get your Google assistant and all of your information faster than ever" says Broadley.
Cosumers are keeping their smartphone for longer periods and for many companies this is a challenge, as they struggle to peak people's interest and get them to upgrade more regularly.
Despite this Gleeson is impressed with Nokia's latest products, especially the Nokia 9 Pureview.
