Описание к видео Why Body Clip Gypsy Vanner Performance Horses in the winter?

Why do I body clip in the winter? 3 Reasons:
1) Prevent respiratory illness, Pneumonia, and colic from long periods with a wet coat after training sessions
2) Prevent Skin Issues from dense dirty coats
3) Horse’s Comfort

1) I work with these Gypsy Vanners year round. After show season, we have a rest period and then begin our work to level up for the coming year. If left un-clipped, they will grow 4-6 inch long coats, perfect for winter protection when sitting in a pasture. However, these horses have a job and remain in training through the winter. Long shaggy coats that get wet from sweating during training do not dry in a timely manner. A horse that stays wet for long periods risk respiratory illness, pneumonia, and colic. I clip our Vanners every 6 weeks and blanket them. They dry within minutes after our workouts and I can throw blankets back on.

2) I can’t wash them with a long shag coat October-April in Utah because they’ll never dry. So much build up and dirt clogs their coat, even with dry grooming techniques. I’ve had Vanners get skin infections that I find in the spring when I clip them that couldn’t possibly be found under all that hair. I prevent skin issues by body clipping every 6-8 weeks and grooming daily. I can keep their skin & coat healthy with hydrating products, brushing, and allowing the skin under the coat to breathe.

3) I’ve found that my Gypsys rub in their winter coats. They’re itchy. Considering skin issues, dirty coats, mites, and discomfort - I prefer to clip them. I can keep mites under control with mite treatment and short coats much better than long shaggy coats. I’ve found that my Gypsys’ are more comfortable clipped & blanketed in the winter since they’re in work full time and love their jobs!
